COWBOYS GET LINEBACKER CLOSE TO HOME IN CHOCTAW'S ROBERSON

STILLWATER -- There will be more for sure as Oklahoma State is looking for a big linebacker class, but they have added Choctaw linebacker Jeff Roberson to the 2020 recruiting class that already includes inside linebacker prospect Cole Thompson of Norman and outside linebacker Brynden Walker of Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness. Roberson made an unofficial trip to Stillwater on Friday and met with Oklahoma State coaches and spoke with Coach Gundy and told Go Pokes that before departing he informed the Oklahoma State staff that he was committed to the Cowboys. Roberson is the 10th pledge in the 2020 recruiting class for Oklahoma State and he is the fifth in-state commitment in the class joining Thompson, Walker, Bisoph Kelley athlete Zach Middleton, and Ardmore Plainview offensive tackle Eli Russ. "Yeah, absolutely it went well up in Stillwater today," Roberson said. "I got to see everything and speak to all the coaches." As to why he went ahead and committed to Oklahoma State right as his recruiting has really heated up with recent offers from Nebraska, Texas Tech, Kansas, Minnesota, Memphis, and Wyoming? "This is where I always wanted to be." Roberson answered. "It felt like home." He had told Go Pokes in an interview prior to the Choctaw Team Camp that we attended that he really did prefer to stay closer to home with friends and family able to more easily see his games and see him play. Roberson is good size at 6-2, 215 pounds. At Choctaw, his head coach Jake Corbin told us they are using him at linebacker on defense and in kind of a catch-all role on offense playing some tight end, some fullback/running back, some h-back. You can see some of his very explosive plays on offense and defensive highlights from his junior season at Harrah as Roberson has moved into Choctaw from Harrah. When we watched in team camp, we saw a smart player on defense that has a nose for the football and is very physical as a tackler, aggressive as a pass rusher, and athletic enough to cover running backs and tight ends. Corbin has been very happy with how Roberson has meshed in and fit with the Yellow Jackets since coming in. "Jeff's a great kid and he's adding to a bunch of great kids," Corbin said of Roberson. Our team chemistry was fantastic before Jeff came, but he's added to it since he arrived. He's never missed a practice, runs track in the afternoon. He is a great kid and he fits into our culture." We would project Roberson as an inside linebacker although with his track speed he can cover a lot of ground and could play outside, but I really think he is going to end up being 6-2 or even 6-3 and end up weighing in the 240-245 pound range. Roberson is the 10th OSU commitment and he is the sixth pledge in the 2020 class on the defensive side joining Thompson and Walker at linebacker along with Grant Mahon at defensive tackle and Jabbar Muhammad at corner. Zach Middleton could end up being a safety. There are two other linebackers that have officially visited Oklahoma State in the spring in Galena Park North Shore's Corey Flagg Jr. and Pearland Shadow Creek's Jeremiah Harris that we know are high priority targets for the Pokes. Later on Friday evening after Roberson pledge, Harris committed to Kansas State.
